I recieved a letter from an attorneys office in regards to a judgement against me for an apartment I was evicted from close to ten years ago. There is white out over the original date ent out with a recent date written over it in pen. Does the Arizona Statue of Limitations protect me in this matter?
That depends. In Arizona, a creditor has five years to enforce a money judgment. However, the judgment can be renewed in five-year increments by filing an affidavit with the court. If your former landlord renewed the judgment five years ago, he may be trying to collect before the second five-year window closes. See ARS 12-1551(B), ARS 12-1611 and ARS 12-1612.
