In 2017 I took an ambien and went to bed. My next memory after that was "coming to" in a holding area in jail. Apparently I went for a little drive and hit some kind of parking sign in a grocery market parking lot.
Anyway it was 2 years of nightmare getting that all settled with the court and the DMV. I have gotten 2 letters from the city wanting me to pay almost $600 to pay for the parking sign. I said screw that and I just recently got a credit alert and the city has just recently placed it for collections! How long do they have to try to collect?
Debts can be collected indefinitely. However, collection items can generally be reported to the credit bureaus for up to 7-years. Furthermore, a creditors ability to collect becomes diminished when the debt goes beyond the applicable statute of limitations to pursue legal action.
