I friend of mine has owed me money for about 6 months. On a different note he had asked to store some things in my garage. (Stored them for last few years) I would like to sell those items to recoup the money he has not paid back.
That would be a bad call on your part if your "friend" ever spoke to a lawyer about the matter. Such an act could open you to liability in suit for conversion of his property.
I think you got it right in your post where you wrote "On a different note..." ; the two matters are separate and distinct;one is not grounds or a defense to the other.
Recommend you tell him to come get his stuff and repay you at the same time.
