How I can apply pressure to increase exit package?
I've received exemplary yearly performance reviews for my entire employment period, the last in August 2021. When I applied for a promotion, my current boss's position, the hiring manager dismissed my qualifications with some choice words.
My current boss came in and for less than 2 months, we have had an amicable relationship, with him showing no complaints. The first time my boss demonstrated concerns was by giving me a performance improvement plan (PIP).
Two things are particularly problematic with the PIP:
1. Many of the 'reasons' for the PIP come from my earlier years in the company where I received stellar performance reviews under entirely different management
2. Demands from the PIP range from impossible to factually wrong
My current boss is driving the message that I am not satisfyingly demands of the PIP and should ask for the "different option." I feel this is a harassment.
I am ok to leave the company at this point. However, I would like to know how to apply max pressure to get better exit package.

As Mr. Powell has indicated, an attorney will need to review all of the facts of your employment history with you before offering any recommendations as to a course of action. I also note, that as you are presently an employee of the Company, you will have to deal directly with your employer and its management officials. It may be that this is a "legitimate" P.I.P. and you will continue your employment thereafter or it may be a "set-up" to justify a termination of employment; if the latter, your employer may offer you a severance package in exchange for your releasing all claims of discrimination and other causes of action for wrongful termination; at that point, you should probably engage an attorney in order to negotiate an enhanced package.
At the present time, you may also find it helpful to consult with an attorney to assess your situation and counsel you as to how best to handle it, including documenting key events. You should feel free to contact one of us listed on Avvo to discuss further. I wish you the best!
