The burden is on you to prove you were not convicted of a crime under immigration law (PTI can be a conviction) and that it is not a CIMT. Some USCIS officers understand the law better than others, and if they are confused, you will suffer the consequences. There are numerous issues that can arise in any naturalization case that may not be your fault, and even more when there is criminal history. IF any of those things come up and you do not have a lawyer, you will have no idea how to react.
