Was given a part that’s doesn’t Exist on my vehicle. But it still fit. Didn’t know any difference till I drove it on the test drive checking everything. At that point it had destroyed a real seal and bushing in a newly refurbished transfer case. Took 6 tries driving back and forth exchanging them to find the write part. After finding the right one I learned the one I was given was to a different vehicle make. Problem was caused by employee not reading everything to make sure he’s getting the right part. And now my 5 year warranty that came with the new case is void and the repairs are mine to fix. The u-joint caused the problem to the case not the case just failed so 1400 down the drain total in stall say 2k and I have to do it all over because of this. I don’t feel I am 100 percent to blame in this situation I have managed to get everything else right. This one just got me. The parts were so close it took 70 mph at 4 to 1 rotation to tell me it wasn’t right. Destroying everything I had did. Is there anything I can do.
Auto parts stores are not mechanics. If you choose to perform repairs/maintenance on your own and have leads to damage, general you have no recourse against any third parties.
