A insured driver ran into our unoccupied home that we were preparing to sale. The house was built in1940. Now the code enforcement of my city said upon repair many things will have to be bought up to code. The insurance company sent me an estimate that did not include the possible cost of meeting codes. They were suppose to send out another contractor but I haven't heard anytime. This happened in June 2018
Get written estimates of the repair costs and market rental value for loss of use damages and make a claim against the driver’s insurer. If it won’t pay, you will have to sue the driver and you have 2 years from the accident to sue. If driver didn’t have insurance notify your homeowners insuror and contact prosecutor of JP court where his ticket is pending and push him to get his license terminated to pressure him to pay.
