A past friend is posting garbage about me in their social media pages. They even went as far as to link a negative post onto my social media until I tightened the security restrictions. They suffer from psychiatric disorders and abuse drugs and alcohol and have had mental breakdowns in the past. I believe this is all spawning from another mental breakdown. I've gone to the police which sent me to the county magistrate for a TPO but was denied. I have a family and a job to protect and just want this to stop. What are my options? If I need an attorney, what type?
You may want to consider hiring a lawyer to send a Cease and Desist letter. While a cease and desist letter has little legal impact, it is a relatively inexpensive way to put the person on notice that you are not going to let these actions continue and that you are serious about pursuing your legal remedies. It also tells the person that they could get in legal hot water which will cost them a lot of legal fees if nothing else. This will often convince them to stop their evil ways.
You will want to discuss your situation with a lawyer in more detail. Use the "Find a Lawyer" tab on this site and choose an Internet lawyer from your locale. Many lawyers on Avvo offer a free phone consultation.
