I am sick but of sound mind and this person who barely does anything for me feels they have the right to get power of attorney over me even though i am plenty capable of taking care of myself with a few home health care workers set up through my disability healthcare, called tn care set up through the social security adminis
No one can get a power of attorney over you unless you sign the PoA document. So, do not sign unless you want the person to hold your PoA. However, a court may appoint a guardian or conservator for you, but you would receive notice and an opportunity to oppose the petition which should also be sent to you. Depending upon your level of concern, consider engaging a lawyer now for consultation and strategizing.
