My husband received garnishment papers. I contacted creditor, they told me that they are not allowed to advise us on how to fill out. They told me to contact the courts. I did and they told me the same thing. I just want answers. I want to get this thing settled.
Most garnishment papers are filled out by employers and calculate how much is available to be garnished. In Ohio it looks like they can take 25% of wages: http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/ohio-bankruptcy-exemptions.html#
As far as settling goes, your husband can contact them any time and make an offer. 1 payment of cash is always better than a promise to pay over time, but who knows what they will take.

You and your husband should contact a consumer rights attorney in your area. That attorney can assist you and even try to negotiate a settlement on your behalf. AVVO has a search tool to assist in finding this attorney. Most should offer free consultations! Good luck.
