Spouse and I married in Mexico but have lived separately throughout our marriage. I want to file for divorce but not sure if I can do that from here in CA or if I'll need to do so in the little rural courthouse that married us.
You can get divorced in CA if you have lived there more than 6 months. CA may not have power to order a support payment in your favor, or to decide all the property issues for anything in Mexico, but so far as status goes, it can release you.
If you want any of those other things addressed, going to Mex may be better so far as jurisdiction is concerned, but maybe less so as to the applicable law.
