I rent a place from a management company. Am the only one on lease. I let a friend stay there while I was working out of town and they paid rent and utilities on the place but there not on lease. They stopped paying and I need them out. Utilities are in my name as well as the lease.
If your friends paid rent directly to the landlord, then it is possible that they have acquired the status of co-tenants, rather than your subtenants. If so, you can't evict them - only the landlord can.
You should promptly consult a local landlord-tenant attorney to go over the facts, paperwork, etc., and advise you of your legal options.
