My ex-husband and I have 3 children together. We were divorced earlier this year, we did all of the divorce papers ourselves, no lawyers. We came to our own agreement for child support payments and presented everything to the judge at our hearing. He signed off and everything was good. We didn't realize that the OAG would manage child support payments (they call my account a "registry-only") until afterwards. Prior, we had an arrangement and my ex paid his support directly to me, quick and easy. We would like to return to doing it that way (the OAG and paying through them has been a hassle), but would my ex get into trouble if we just stopped using their system? Is there a way to just close that portion altogether?
Because the state has an interest in cases where the AG works on them, and because the child support is almost always a court order as well as a family obligation, the Court system wants all payments made through the state distribution unit, which should be shown in at least one of your orders. So that you don't get in trouble with the state, I recommend you set up a payment account at the Texas State Disbursement Unit, PO Box 659400, San Antonio, TX 78265-9400. This way the child support payor will also have proof of payment.
