Hey guys i live abroad, had my first adorable baby girl(isabell) last year in the states (Los Angeles) and wanted to change her name because i feel it's too common of a name... I needed some legal advice from you on how I can do it while am still here in london....or do I have to go back??? Better yet, is there a person(like a friend) I can designate to handle all the paperwork and documentation if there's a need to do that??....anything helps guys thanks a lot!!
What is your connection to Washington? You are in London, but where is your residence? If you are a resident of England, then you should talk to a lawyer there. If California is your domicile, then talk to an attorney there. If your domicile is Washington, you can do a name change in your local district court. You will need to give notice to the father. I do not know that you can do it without personally appearing but you could call the court clerk and ask.
Absent an agreement, to change a child's name requires you to file a motion with the court, and give Dad notice, at least in WA. You should consult with an attorney in London as well.
