My mother in law lives in Suffolk, VA and was sentenced to 5 years of probation in March 2013. While it has been about 5 years, she still owes $1480 of fines. She's low income, lives on disability because of arthritis deteriorating her bones, and pays $20 minimum faithfully every month. She comes to our home in GA after getting a pass, but her new PO won't let her come for more than 2 weeks and she likes to visit a full month a year. How can we get her off probation or to where she can come to visit as she pleases? Would she have to pay the total in fines or is there any way she could get off probation but continue to pay her fines off every month?
Her attorney can ask the court to consider modifying the supervised part of her sentence. The Suffolk Commonwealth's may willing to help or may oppose it.
