I answered an ad for a personal assistant on Craigslist. (yeah I know) Spoke to a Mr.Mark Delsy who informed me that he was in the scrap metal business and his wife was a jewelry designer. As such they both frequently needed gold which is cheaper in Africa and over time found a reliable person over there to do business with. In short order I easily fall for a silly scam that makes me the middle man in a western union money transfer scam. I only now see it as silly however after being enlightened by the curious western union attendant who warned me to look into the details of what I was doing. My silly desire to make a quick buck clouded my judgement now I am seekIng to remedy the situation. PLEASE HELP I'm a college athlete going into my senior year don't want this hanging over my head....

I am a criminal defense attorney practicing in Nassau, Suffolk and New York City. The above information is not a substitution for a meeting whereas all potential legal issues can be discussed.
Hire an attorney who will help you determine at what stage the case against you may be. If an arrest is imminent your attorney can help protect your rights and keep you from making incriminating statements.
The first question is have you been charged? The second question is do you have all of the emails and text messages and phone numbers of the people involved in the scheme. If so, get it all together and seek a consult with an experienced criminal defense attorney. Being proactive might be a good strategy for you in this case.
I am a former Deputy Bureau Chief with the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office who has been specializing in criminal law for over 15 years. I offer free consultations by telephone, in-office or by videoconference.
