Talk to your family law attorney about a guardianship.
The opinion that I express should not be considered to be legal advice that can be relied on. It is based only on the limited amount of information provided rather than doing a thorough review of all of the important information that is required to give accurate legal advice. You should consult with an attorney that has extensive background in the area of the law that your are inquiring about.
If the parents are willing to let you take care of your niece, you may want to get them to file for a limited guardianship and name you as the guardian. More info here: http://wcpc.us/Info/minorlimgdn.html
If the parents are not willing to set up a limited guardianship or if you want a more permanent solution, you can petition the court for a full guardianship.
