my ex-husband owes me more than $20,000 in arrears. I live in GA and he lives in NY. the final divorce decree with child support order was done in GA. I have an open case with the child support division here in GA but nothing is happening. Am I able to bring my child support order to his county court in NY and file contempt?
Typically the DCSS office here will send the case to New York and the local office there will do exactly that. If that is the route you want to go, you need to let DCSS know and dismiss that case. You would then hire private counsel in New York.
This communication does not form an attorney-client relationship. No attorney-client relationship can, or will, be formed without a contract detailing the terms of the relationship and signed by the represented party and an attorney of the firm. Please consult www.bbtlawgroup.com for further information regarding this policy.
Go up to NY, and hire an attorney there to domesticate your GA decree, and move the court to hold him in contempt for failure to pay support.
