my ex abandoned my daughter for two months before she petitioned for custody through tribal court after which she was awarded full custody without me having any representation. After she used the tribal courts to obtain custody, she moved a hour away and filed for child support through the state which has no jurisdiction being that me and the mother are members of a federally recognized tribe making my child a ward of the tribal courts The mother falsified information not telling the state that she was awarded custody by the tribal courts My daughter is ten years old now and i have paid over 20,000 in child support only to realize that tribal law overrules state.
You're in a situation where you can either try to handle this yourself, or you can retain an attorney to help you. Far better to get an attorney, especially one familiar with both South Dakota child support and tribal court if that attorney isn't already admitted in both court systems. Use the "Find a lawyer" option at the top of your screen to start your search. Good luck.
