I was taken to a hospital 4months ago and paid my deductible/co-pay of $450(got $90 discount since I paid right away) using credit card. I was told the $450 will cover all my portion on bills.Now out of the blue, I got this letters from NPAS asking me I still owe them $700(seems hospital refer me to them). Not sure if they are a collection agency. Now, I look at the bills and they charges me medications I did not get(i.e.morphine, etc.) w/c I refuse to get at the hospital to avoid reactions due to family history. What is best way to resolve this? Do I need to tell me own health insurance about the overcharges? I tried calling the hospital and I've been redirected always to NPAS. How do I dispute? Best way to resolve this? Please help avvo attorneys!!
Begin by locating a free legal aid clinic close to you and ask them for help in drafting a letter of dispute to the "collection" agency, immediately putting them on notice that you dispute this bill. That will preserve your rights and credit history. You will need to send the same letter of dispute, month after month, until they get tired of you and give up or negotiate to settle the disputed amount for, say, 22 cents on the dollar.
