what is my remedy as I lost my plaintiff small claims court case last week
the attorney appeared on behalf of two LLC and stated she was general in house counsel
I objected at the time but the judge allowed her to put on the entire defense
see legal authority below that prohibited her conduct
Corporation or other legal entity — A corporation or other legal entity (that is not a natural person) can be represented by a regular employee, an officer, or a director; a partnership can be represented by a partner or regular employee of the partnership, but the representative may not be an attorney or person whose only job is to represent the party in small claims court.
California Department of Consumer Affairs
While you are correct that a party may not be represented by an attorney at a small claims hearing, that general rule does not preclude a business entity from having their in-house counsel appear on their behalf. The in-house counsel is likely a regular employee of the entity.
