Please contact your local county bar association for an estimate on the standard cost to do an estate plan in your county.
The best time to do your estate plan is now while you still have capacity.
It depends on what attorney you use. To avoid paying more than necessary stay away from big firms unless you know a lawyer at a big firm personally. Find a small estate planning firm or several and ask them what they charge. You may get several different answers.
Do not be afraid to insist on an estimate. But realize that most lawyers are uncomfortable quoting prices up front because we do not know how much work is involved. To be fair, you have to let the lawyers look at your estate documents and know what your assets are before they can estimate the cost.
A living will (also known as a healtcare power of attorney) should be low cost. You can even get them for free at wills clinics held by the local bar associations or law schools. A trust however, can cost between $1000-$5000. It all depends on the lawyer you use and the assets you have. A basic will costs less but there are goals that you may want to accomplish that a will cannot help you with. That is why finding an estate planning attorney that knows what they are doing and has fair prices is important.
My postings on Avvo are of a general nature, based on the facts provided and are not intended to be taken as legal advice or to establish an attorney-client relationship
The cost for a package of all of those items varies with the complexity of your situation. The cost can range dramatically so you should shop around. The drafting attorney will want to have a list of assets and how they are titled, how you want to distribute your estate, who you want to have as your primary and secondary trustee, executor and agent, as well as your desires for end of life issues for starters.
My answer is for general information only and does not imply that any attorney-client relationship has been created.
