My ticket indicates that I was doing 74 mhr in a 55 zone. That is possible as traffic was very light.
How can I avoid getting points on my licence as it will probably be reported to the Ontario authorities & may affect my insurance premium. This is my 1st ticket in 45 years of driving ( I am 62 ). My licence is clean.
Thanks for helping me.
I am canadian & live in Ontario Canada

I am a criminal defense attorney practicing in Nassau, Suffolk and New York City. The above information is not a substitution for a meeting whereas all potential legal issues can be discussed.
New York and Ontario do exchange information. Contact an attorney, s/he may be able to negotiate a plea to a no point violation.
Because points from New York transfer to Ontario, we recommend that you fight this ticket. We represent many drivers from Ontario and are very familiar with your demerit point system. A NY speeding ticket that is 19 mph over the limit carries 4 NY points and will transfer as 4 demerit points in Ontario. Given your exemplary driving record, you should be able to get this ticket reduced to a less serious charge (possibly something that carrie 0 points in Ontario).
If you do not want to return to NY, then you can retain a NY traffic lawyer who can appear for you.
Matthew Weiss, Esq. Weiss & Associates, PC 212-683-7373 www.nytrafficticket.com Since 1991, we make fighting traffic tickets as easy as possible.
Your case will largely depend on which court you're in. Each court has its own personality, with its own prosecutor and judge. You said you were 5 to 10 miles from the border, which could mean Buffalo, Niagara Falls, or Lewiston. Our approach to your case will be tailored to the specific court your case is handled in. Frankly, we have been able to get very favorable results in each jurisdiction, but it would be helpful to get a few more details from you.
In light of your clean driving record, a result with no points or insurance increases is certainly not out of the question.
