Hi, I feel unsafe and harassed by an ex-client.
About a year ago he sent and left what I felt were clearly threatening emails and phone messages, showed up an my home unannounced, took me to small claims court but did not show up and threatened again to go to court. This all resulted in many lost hours and a feeling that I was unsafe. Our signed agreement clearly states the terms and the services that I provided.
What can I do to prevent him from further harassment?
Can I sue him for the dozens of lost hours and fear that I felt?
If he takes me small claims court again, can I show that this is frivolous, deserves to be thrown out?
If a court appearance is required, can I postpone it because I will be away for a month on business?
Thanks in advance.
There is no civil cause of action in New York for harassment.
