I was pulled over late at night for going 70 in a 55 on Rt 9 with no cars on the road. The officer pulled me over two traffic lights later when I had been going 40 for awhile. He told me I was getting a careless driving instead of a speeding but since Rt. 9 is a Safe Corridor the ticket is doubled. I do not want points since I am a young driver and that'll hurt my insurance payments. What should I do here?
Depends on how long you have had your license but I would suggest hiring a good lawyer.
DO NOT MESSAGE ME IF YOU HAVE A CRIMINAL OR SERIOUS TRAFFIC TICKET MATTER AND DO NOT RESPOND TO MY ANSWER. THIS WEBSITE IS NOT SECURE. Anything sent over the internet is NOT private and subject to intercept by the Police and the Prosecutor and could be used against you in court. If you have a question set up a private in office consultation where everything you say is protected under the Attorney Client Privilege. Note any information/advise provided in this answer is provided for information/educational purposes only and is not specific to your case nor legal advise on what you should do and thus do not rely on any information given without consulting in person with a lawyer. You certainly have a few options. Maybe a little different to explain fully in this forum. You may want to consult with an attorney to discuss this further. Most attorneys even offer free consultations. Best of luck
You were facing 4 points and the officer cut you a break issuing the 2 point careless. Agree with Scott that a lawyer could reduce further. Whether it is worth the cost is a business decision you will have to make.
More information is needed. If you are a probationary driver you cannot get a 0 point downgrade. If you have a full license you can. But the cop may have written on the ticket he already gave you a big break. If not you can get a 0 point ticket for the asking. Lane Miller is the prosecutor in Old Bridge. He normally offers "unsafe driving" 4-97.2 as the 0 point downgrade. But that is $439 and you were in a safe corridor. An attorney may be able to get you a less expensive 0 pointer, maybe, but you need to figure if the savings are negated by the attorney fee.
