I got caught stealing $49.99 worth of merchandise at frys & they called police and police give me a ticket and court date to see George. I don't know how much the ticket. What should I do. Please help me. How I punished? I'm so worried. What will be the result. Thank you
DO NOT just "pay the ticket." That would require a guilty plea... and a theft conviction will follow you for the rest of your life. Would you hire a thief to work in your business?
Jail is unlikely... and the fines won't be huge... but the other consequences are extreme.
You need a lawyer to help you. If you can't afford to hire your own lawyer, the judge will appoint one from the public defender's office.
This answer is a general discussion of legal principles by a California lawyer. It does not create an attorney-client relationship. Free initial consultation applies only to individuals with current or potential criminal charges in Butte County, California and adjoining counties.
It depends. I would not sign or plead to any charge of petty theft without talking to a lawyer. You may have a defense. There may be a way to get the DA to agree to an alternative to pleading guilty to this. Best of luck.
For Burbank get an attorney. It is quite possible that you may be eligible for diversion. Do not pay citation!
