USCIS is concerned about you meeting your tax filing obligations so if you file your return that is good. It will also be acceptable if you owe the IRS to get on an installment agreement with them. You should bring a copy of the installment agreement with you to your interview for support in case they ask. It is unlikely that they will but it is better to be prepared.
Supporting paperwork is the name of the game. Be sure to document the fact that your extension request was timely and that your return was then filed within the time extension. Save proof of your payment plan and be ready to provide all of this information upon request.
