We have been living in this neighborhood for over 20 years now, it was so peaceful and never had a problem. A few years ago a new landlord bought two apartment buildings right next to us. Besides, other houses. Ever since those renters nothing but criminals and bums, stay for 6 months and then move out and so on. Crime rate has gone up, my house has been vandalized many times, and they broke our windows while away. I wish I could go on and say more. Bottom line is my husband and I called the police many times recently, and sometimes the police miss it by the time they get here, and that really concerns us. Tell your friend to return to whatever job he or she has and to refrain from giving incorrect legal or other advice. You do not need a lawyer merely because you have called 911 many times. The police are obligated to respond to every legitimate call. You have no negative record by virtue of your having called 911 and you certainly have no basis for suing your landlord based upon 911 calls or criminal activity over which the landlord has no control. I agree with Judy. Getting some security cameras and lights with motion sensors may help. The only way you can get the landlord is if the building doesn't meet code. The other thing you can do is get involved with a community organization or start one if none already exists. Then a group can put pressure on this new landlord. You can't be the only home owner in the area affected or concerned.
