got pulled over with marijuana paraphernalia (little bottle with residue) and charged with a minor misdemeanor. have a court date coming up and wondering what to expect.
Conviction for minor misdemeanor marijuana possession is a bit of a Trojan Horse. There are three critical things to understand. (1) You driver's license can be suspended at the judge's discretion (it used to be mandatory); (2) your FAFSA eligibility will be suspended for 1 year; (3) if you plan to pursue a career in any medical field any drug charge is a potentially serious hurdle. You're almost certainly best off getting a lawyer to negotiate a plea to something like disorderly conduct or a diversion program.
