Do I send in additional information or an explanation along with my plea of not guilty in mail?
I recently got a speeding ticket in NY. This is my first ever ticket, and the court is 3 hours away, the vehicle I was driving is also not my vehicle and I do not know if I will have a way to the court if I have to appear. So I have to respond by mail either way. I'm also trying to save up for a car, and I know I won't be able to afford insurance if I plead guilty.
if you plead guilty you will automatically get all the points associated with the violation on your rercord. A judge only has the discretion to reduce the fine not the points. The only way to avoid the violation from appearing on your driving record is to plead Not Guilty. An attorney can do that for you and make any necessary court appearances in your place. A good traffic lawyer should be able to get your speeding charge reduced to a parking vioaltion.
The Benjamin Goldman Law Office fights traffic tickets exclusively.
You should plead not guilty and hire an attorney to negotiate a disposition for you. Your clean record will speak favorably. Depending upon the facts and details, an experienced attorney may be able to resolve the matter with a reduced disposition and avoid points. An attorney can represent you without your appearance if you provide them with your authorization. Good luck!
