A few years ago my ex was ordered to pay me spousal support until I remarry or one of us dies. His employment checks are garnished. I'm getting married soon. My ex and I do not speak or have any contact. Do I need to file anything with the court notifying them I no longer need spousal support, or is a certified letter to my ex stating I am getting married and no longer need spousal support sufficient? Will my ex then be required to file paperwork with the court so his checks are no longer garnished? Will I have to show up in court? I would prefer not seeing my ex. I don't want to handle this improperly and then owe my ex money.
