I was subpoenad to appear in court where I was the victim in a domestic violence dispute. I'm wondering if I need to hire a lawyer or if the state will provide me with the prosecutor.
If all you ant is criminal charges, a district attorney will be assigned to prosecute the matter. If you want a protection order, you need to hire an attorney to do so...Legal Aid of NC represents clients for free in these matters.
This appears to be a criminal matter. You are a witness and the state wil be prosecuting the defendant; the ADA will be acting essentially as your attorney
