40 children signed petetion in private school, 6 were punished all with varying punishments though the offense was the same. 2 were made to sign contracts stating they couldn't so much as accidentally disrupt class without being EXPELLED! Upon initial investigation all six boys were held in the office and not allowed to contact their parents even though they directly asked several times. The parents were not given details about the offense or the punishment, nor were they able to sit with their children during discipline meetings though they were invited to the school. Teachers violated FERPA by talking directly about students including specific names and specific punishments to the entire student body.
If this matter is important enough to you, then you will need to hire an attorney. The school is not going to sanction itself if it did, indeed, violate the law.
I suggest you contact an Austin attorney who practices in this area.
This does not sound like a violation of FERPA.
