This is gonna sound bad. I won the lottery but I don’t trust my wife and mother in law so I was gonna give my lottery ticket to my mom. My wife does not know I won. My question is if I gave my mom my lottery ticket and then I got divorced and my mom then would give me back the money after the divorce was final would I have to pay taxes on it?
Bad news. No matter who gets the lucky ticket, the person who collects the prize owes "taxes". You have a better chance of splitting the winnings less than 50-50 in a divorce, but not much better. Why not claim the prize and put the $$ in a separate bank account?
