I was in a car accident last year and it so happens that my insurance lapsed I went before the judge and he would not let me receive counsel I was told that with crimes of magnitude I was suppose to have counsel now I have to go back to court on the anniversary of the offence first why am I going back and do I have a case for dismissal

It sounds like he required you to get a lawyer because you could possibly go to jail. Can it be dismissed? Depends on what happened.
Much more information is needed. What took a year? He may have said you cannot have a PD because you do not qualify so you needed to retain your own.
