I owe a loan company 2 months of payments. The police dropped a paper for me to appear in court. I live in south Carolina Do I have to attend the court?
First, you should have an attorney to review the papers. Typically, this type of collection action is a civil matter and does not absolutely require your presence. If you have any defense or dispute as to the payments you certainly would wish to response and appear. Generally, a judgment will be entered for the loan company and if there is collateral the judgment may include an order of repossession of the collateral. I do stress that you should not rely on internet advice and should let an attorney review the papers to explain to you what is happening and what you should do.
