I believe that my exmanager is giving a false bad reference, and lying about why I quit working for him. This is creating difficulty in finding gainful employment. Can I pose as a prospective employer and record the phone conversation as proof?
In some states recording of phone conversations is a criminal act. You need to be careful and prudent in your actions. Perhaps one of the prospective employers will tell you what was said about you. You may need a lawyer to write a cease and desist letter. Talk to an attorney about a potential suit abased upon the employers post termination conduct.
Maybe have a friend who owns a business ask? That way you have a witness (but make sure it's someone who will appear as a good witnes. )
indiana is a state where you can record. different from Illinois, for instance.
one issue is defamation and that is a serious violation to you.
