Hi, me and my girlfriend, who is illegal alien here in the US, have decided that we want to do confidential marriage, we have been together for about 1 year and a half, living separate, each on our own places. My family has opposed to our relationship because of my gf's continuous interest in marriage, even though I trust her intentions.
My mom and sister live with me, so moving together is not an option just for now. Can we still have confidential marriage even if we live separate? Do we have to submit proof of living together? Will this still work if in the future I want to petition her for visa?
So long as the marriage is in good-faith and it is a bonafide relationship, living separately is not fatal to the application. It will be more difficult, and you will have to show that the relationship is legitimate with other documentation, but it is not impossible. That being the case, you should work with an immigration attorney. Best of luck.
