I plan to leave US to take care of my elderly parent who is unable to take care of himself. I have child support obligations and I am totally breaking down after what my ex did to me. So, I am unable to function in my job. What if I move to my home country and renounce my US Citizenship? What will happen?
Since you cannot renounce your child, support will continue to accrue unless and until there is an order entered which modifies the support. Additionally, unpaid support earns interest at the rate of 9% per year. If you currently have unpaid support, you may not be able to get a U.S. passport, which may or may not be relevant.
