I am a mother and am supposed to be receiving child support for my 6 yr old. Now the biological father is almost 12000 dollars in arrears and I don't see a dime. He is in prison currently but it seems the courts and child support never do anything and I'm beginning to need some help supporting my son. What can I do to forcethe issue or receive help?
If he is in prison he has no income and can't pay the child support. If he has assets including a house, motor vehicle, money in the bank, retirement, etc., you may try to get the arrears reduced to a judgment and then try to collect on the assets. I assume you you are working with CSE; unfortunately, they will not take on out of the ordinary cases such as yours. You will need to hire an attorney to work this case for you; or wait until father is out of prison and employed. Good luck.
