At your first appearance in court you will be advised of your rights by the judge. Then the judge will ask you what you want to do about an attorney. Tell the judge you want a court appointed attorney. The judge will have you fill out a financial affidavit to show your income and expenses. If the judge finds that you are indigent (lack resources to hire an attorney) you will be appointed one since the Reckless Driving charge is a Class 2 misdemeanor and carries a maximum jail sentence of 60 days.
Once you are appointed an attorney, take advantage of his/her experience.
Driving while revoked (not impaired related) is a class three and reckless driving is a class two misdemeanor. It is possible to jail on these but highly unlikely. I mean you would have to have a really bad record for starters. There are larger issues at stake here, however. First, do you ever wish to have a valid driving privilege or affordable insurance? Do you care about your criminal record? Consider hiring an attorney. The Court may even consider appointing you one. Representing one's self is not a good idea.
