I have roughly $12 k in credit card debt and an auto loan with roughly $11 k left. I plan to keep my auto loan and do a reaffirmation agreement with my bank and keep making payments (I am not behind on any auto payments). I don't have the extra income to hire an attorney to file for me and have done a lot of research on filing pro se. Since all i have is credit card debt would it be worth getting an attorney or would I have a difficult time filing pro se?
Bankruptcy court is very detailed and has a lot of forms that must be filled out correctly and on time. Also, there are deadlines and a lot of information that is sent by the Court electronically. I would be cautious about doing it yourself at the very least get a consultation with an attorney. Call around and see what lawyer offers the lowest fee to file. It is not expensive to hire a lawyer to represent you for what you risk if you don't fully understand the bankruptcy court.
