My boyfriend took my car without my knowledge ( while I was sleeping ) and the car has been impounded for seven days. I was called and spoken to but I was not aware that it HAS to be impounded for a week. The police officer never asked me if it was stolen or if I was aware or if I had given him permission to take it. There is a report that has been posted online which states "HIS" vehicle has been impounded for seven days. He is not on my insurance and never has been he is only a co-owner on my car loan this is essentially "my car" not his. I understand in a sense that he is co-owner but as far as I am aware that is only in financial matters of payment. My question is this; is there anything that I can do to take my car out of impound before the seven days as I need it for work & travel and as far as I am concerned my vehicle was stolen (taken without permission ) and he is not on my insurance, I also do not want this reported in fear it will affect my insurance. I don't wish to press charges I only want to pay to get my vehicle out before a full week. Any advice would be appreciated
You either have to press charges or it will be seen that you gave him permission. You can always beg the cops to let you have the car but if they already said no, there's not much you can do.
