I have read they can for federal student loans but these are not federal. I am also aware that wages can not be garnished for unsecured debt.Do the same state collection laws apply to these private none federal loans, as they do to other unsecured debt..such as wages beeing exempt from garnishment?
No. The student loan creditor cannot garnish wages. It's just like any other unsecured private creditor.
I am licensed only in Texas. Offering information of a general nature in response to a question is not intended to be legal advice in your state.
Wages can't be garnished directly, but bank accounts can, even if the only funds in the account came from wages.
