In general, a private employer has wide discretion over the terms and conditions of employment of an "at-will" employee. This includes setting work hours. So assuming there is no contractual agreement to the contrary, unfortunately your employer likely can extend your shift without violating the law (as long as you are properly compensated for this time including overtime pay).
