I received a student loan from the federal government. The money was Deposited into my savings account and the State seized the student loan to pay for back taxes now I cannot pay for school
Generally, the answer is no. However, how you can unring the bell since it was the state that levied (and not a court) using an administrative garnishment, I don't know. There is probably some process you can initiate with the WI Dept of Revenue to claim the funds exempt.
The law is 20 U.S.C. 1095a(d).
USC is United States Code.
Best of luck.
