So last year in June (June 2018) my friend (18 years old female) punched a 14 year old kid who hit her first. I was there and witnessed it all. He was really about to attack her. She's a small girl and he's taller than her and about the same weight (doesn't really matter I'm just setting this up that it was self defense) say the parents wanted to press charges against the girl, how long do they have to do it since it's almost been a year... I read that it was 2 years for misdemeanors but I'm not sure if this is a misdemeanor. Will she get fined or put in jail for this? The father also told the son to hit her first which is why she hit him back.
You are correct, the statute of limitations is two years. This all sounds like petty drama. If nothing was done at the time, it is unlikely to be pursued now. These are all just general statements. Best of luck to you and your friend.
