I'm a university student in California, international. I was on holiday for two weeks vacationing with my family when I was confused to see my landlord contact my father on linked-in. I then messaged Person A on instagram asking him if he was trying to reach me. He said I am not welcome back and he changed the key locks to the door. I was very confused and after asking him what happened repeatedly he told me lies for example that I "damaged property" and "Theft", did "drugs" (weed only) and drank alcohol (which is another lie). They only told me after 2 day I payed rent this month and expect me to just be homeless. They also entered my room and put all my stuff in boxes and said they will charge rent for how long I have my stuff there. Now I am supposed to go back home with a home. I had a 6 month lease and then we went month to month after that. And negligent endangerment... but i don't know how. I never stole anything in my life and i never damaged anything in that house or Private room private bathroom I was renting. I admit I did have liquor in a closed draw inside my room and im 20 but can they really prove it was mine if i sue them or will i risk losing more money...
No, they can't. If you're a tenant, they need to evict you formally. Contact a plaintiff's tenant ASAP.
