I am a doctor , I worked in Florida for 15 months were like nightmares since my employer was keep scaring me by calling immigration and canceling my visa , later on I found a new employer to sponsor me , after I resigned he didn't pay me my last month salary , he didn't pay me my bonus , I tried to contact him by e mail multiple time and he never responded,
The estimate amount of money that he owes me is about 35000 $
What should I do now? Should I contact the department of labor?
Reach out to a labor and employment attorney. This sounds like wage theft, and there are both State and Federal laws that may apply. You will almost certainly be given a free consultation, and it is possible a lawyer will take the case without needing you to pay them anything up front.
I agree with Mr. Mermiges. You need to contact an employment attorney. The attorney will review all your employment documents and advise you on the steps to take.
FYI, employers who withhold wages can be held responsible for paying the attorneys fees of the employee who is forced to sue them to get his/her wages.
My answers to questions are for general educational purposes only and do not establish an attorney-client relationship.
Typically an employer cannot withhold any earned pay, but there could be a provision in your employment contract or agreement that provides this right. I agree wit the others, you need to reach out to an attorney to review the matter. Best of luck
