Several different Managers over 5 years.
Already signed a lease for the new unit and they needed the $500 transfer fee payment for turnover on the new unit, which was vacated on the 8th of July and needs the turnover anyway.
The apartment we are in is the most outdated in the complex and was supposed to be updated 7 months ago, but now there is new management.
First, read your lease. If there is a requirement in the lease for this fee, then you may have to pay. However, since they are asking or requiring you to move, it seems to me that they should not be asking for anything from you and should be offering to help you move instead of asking for money. If its not not in the lease, just tell them "No," and see what they do. Probably nothing. However, they decide to give you an eviction notice. If that happens, you will have no trouble finding an attorney to file a wrongful eviction case.
With new management asking for something like this and you having to move, maybe it's time to think about moving somewhere else when the new lease runs out.
